Questions about Summer Camp
Q. Who are the counselors and how old are they?
A. Our summer camp counselors are some of our Outdoor Education teachers,
college age students, former campers, and junior level ranch hands in
training. Our counselors ages range from 15 to 25. top
Q. Where do the kids sleep?
A. They sleep in large carpeted dormatories.top
Q. Camper to staff ratio?
A. 10 to 1 top
Q. If a camper is staying more than one week do we have to pay for Saturday
night?
A. No, Saturday night is a free-bee and a lot of fun! top
Q. Is there a discount for more than 1 child?
A. No top
Q. Are you accredited?
A. We have been a member of Camp Horsemanship Association for over 30
years. They specialize in horse camp safety. We are also approved by
many, many Girl Scout counsils for their troop outings AND over 30 years
experience in the summer camp business should leave you feeling confident
that we have a safe, fun camp. top
Q. How is spending money handled?
A. We set up a bank account system for the kids. All they need is their
name tag with their bank number on it (and a smile) and they can check out
their money at the candy counter. We can even put a limit on how much they
are able to spend each day. top
Q. Can friends be in the same activity group?
A. Yes, but they must be the same age or very close. We don't allow 8 year
old dudes in with the 12 year old dudes. It's not fair to either one. top
Q. What about children on medication?
A. On check in day there will be a medication table. Make sure all
medication is labeled and turn it in. We will make sure your child gets his
or her meds according to your directions. top
Q. Can we come see the camp?
A. YES! We encourage you to let your child see the facilities and meet some
of our staff before their camp dates. The ranch is hardly ever closed
between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm. top
Q. How do you handle homesickness?
A. Keeping kids busy is a major deterant to homesickness. There is an
activity scheduled every hour of the day (except for meal times) from 8:00
am until 9:00 or 10:00 depending on bedtime. Counselors and other campers
work together in an effort to let the homesick camper know that camp
wouldn't be the same without them. We rarely have anyone go home because of
homesickness - there's too much to do. top
Q. Have you had many injuries and how serious?
A. Of course we have had injuries over the past 40 years, but very few
serious injuries. top
Q. Is there a nurse on duty and how do you handle injuries?
A. No we do not have a registered nurse on duty. Most of our staff is
Red Cross certified and at the beginning of camp each year we review.
On each activity a counselor carries a first aid fanny pack with them.
We are very safety conscience. top
